First Steps

I was not expecting this little milestone so soon. I figured maybe by Christmas Abigail would take her first steps. She just starting walking around the house holding my hands only a week ago. And it was only yesterday that she had any stamina or interest in doing that for more than 5 steps at a time. I guess she figured out how to put it all together because she's moving right along.

It was just 1 step at first, then 2, then suddenly 3 steps by the end of the evening. She's so proud of herself! Matthew and I looked at each other with shock...can this really be happening already? Wow, they grow up so fast. I guess I always assumed that kids seemed to grow so quickly because I only saw them occasionally....I missed the everyday stuff. But now I realize that the everyday stuff is just as amazingly fast!

The other new thing that I am enjoying is the bedtime routine of reading. We tried to read to her before when she was younger but we never seemed to make it work. And she didn't have any interest in books. But ever since 4 weeks ago, she loves them! She looks at them constantly and will even sit still long enough to finish reading one to her. I know this isn't a big deal, but I was seriously worried about the fact that we hadn't been reading to her enough (ok, I know I am a dork...you can make fun of me like Matthew just did when I told him my fears). So I am happy to report that she loves bedtime books.

My favorite ones to read her are the "I love you" kinds of stories....where you get to tell her over and over again how much you love her. They make me sniffle (again, I am a dork and I am ok with that reality).

She's been doing really great with bedtime (knock on wood), falling asleep so quietly by 7:30-ish and waking up 12 hours later. Its very very rare that she wakes up and needs us to go in to her. And she is down to the last bottle at night. I'm not sure when I will take that away. I realized yesterday that I just need to let go of the stress about what I am "supposed" to do. She let go of the morning bottle without incident and she is doing much better with the sippy cup. So, I need to learn to chill more (what else is new?!).

Here is a picture of Abigail from last weekend, wearing my sunglasses. She loves wearing them all of the time and will now sit in the car seat or in a grocery cart seat with them on forever - seriously, she has no interest in taking them off. Too funny.

Here she is eating spaghetti for the first time a few weeks ago. Ha! What a mess. It reminded me of when my mom put a garbage bag over me to eat spaghetti one time because I never could eat it without getting it all over my shirt. I see my future clearly!

And here are a few pictures from last month when we were raking leaves.

Peek-a-boo!

I love you!

  1. LOVE IT! All of it, SOOOO true. It all happens SO fast.

And I totally agree about the not stressing about stuff. Either it will happen easily or it doesn't and we try again later in the day, or in a day or two...or a week, haha. I just try not to sweat stuff anymore. If Andy wakes up in the middle of the night, I don't get upset like I used to...none of this is going to last forever. So I wouldn't worry about that last bottle...it's not like she's going to still be drinking a bottle when she goes off to kindergarten. "Boo-hiss" to anything you're SUPPOSED to do. ;-)

We do the reading thing at bedtime too. We started it as part of their routine way back when we started a bedtime routine at 4 mos. At first they weren't interested and some times we only got through one book. We've gotten to the point where they may sit in a lap for an entire story, but we also allow them the freedom to wander the nursery while we read (I kinda have to since when I'm alone, I'm outnumbered, haha). It is sooooo cool that they're interested and point to things on the page. And when they pretend to read themselves, AWE! melts my heart!

And I know what you mean about the sniffles while you are reading... I do that ALL of the time when I sing to them. Ha! Whadda gonna do? I can't help it. :-)

Oh and that sunglasses pic...SOOOO funny!

Glad to see you three are doing so well. Thanks for the update!
