Abbie's Arm Issue...A Follow-up

Matthew and I took Abbie back to Children's Hospital Tuesday for her follow-up. Her arm seems to be doing a lot better but she still can't put a lot of pressure or weight on it. The doctor examined her and determined that indeed she does have nerve damage (presumably due to the way she was laying in my belly) and that it has gotten probably about 75% better all on its own. The damage has nothing to do with her fractured clavicle, but likely that also happened when she was in my belly. If you remember, I was in a lot of pain the last 2 months of pregnancy because she was so low and the doctor in the hospital said she was in there at a very strange angle. I guess that also caused her crooked nose. Poor baby!

Anyway, her left arm doesn't have full motion yet but she's too young for physical therapy. So the doctor showed us what to do on our own with her. One thing we need to do is tickle her tummy a lot so she is forced to move her arms. We can certainly do that! And we'll keep doing tummy time even though she hates it.

The doctor thinks Abbie will always have annoyances with her arm because it will not feel symmetrical. But she won't be limited at all and will be able to do most everything other kids can do. Apparently she'll notice it if she does things like cheer leading. Cheer leading?! Well, then, we don't have to worry about it because she'll be too busy with her music lesson anyway (kidding, of course)!

BTW, the clavicle is probably completely healed by now, so that's no longer a concern. My little sweetie...what a start! But she's growing big and strong, as you can see from her pictures!
