A Breakthrough

Well I think we had a breakthrough today. Stephanie met with a private lactation consultant at the house. We have continued to have ups and downs with feeding in general, but particularly with breast feeding. I wasn't here, but Stephanie said that this grandma-like lady comes in, and was very soothing and re-assuring with her manner and tone. I guess the appointment lasted for about 90 minutes, but it was outstanding. It's amazing all the different and conflicting things that we have heard, even from medical professionals. It has been confusing, and frankly it could be quite aggravating trying to get Abbie's feeding needs met. Stephanie has been determined to make the breast feeding happen, and in that 90 minutes she came away with something priceless: confidence! I got to see it first hand when I got home. Stephanie said 'Hey watch this!'. This lady new EXACTLY what she was talking about because Stephanie fed Abbie in front of me like she was an old pro. There are just a few simple tricks, and the magic happens. I have never seen her feed Abbie that easily before. So if anyone needs a lactation consultant referall here in Columbus, we've got the person for you! Hopefully (cross your fingers) the days of formula feeding, and issues derived from that (gas, diaper blowouts, etc) are over..at least for the most part.

Stephanie is continuing to feel better and better each day. Hopefully we will be able to see more of you soon. I have a feeling that the feeding will now become more efficient, and will allow her more time and energy to dedicate to visitors/talking on the phone. Her life has been pretty much tied up with feeding and rest, which is why she hasn't been doing any updates. I can assure you that I have been informing her of all your comments and well wishes, and they are very much appreciated. Please feel free to continue with all your various well wishes. With the breakthrough today, maybe she will be able to start catching up with you all soon. Oh, as a side note, we have been very bad about answering the phone lately. That has mostly stemmed from us being busy with the baby, but we have been getting bombarded with phone calls from Obama, McCain, and various other people too. I can't wait till this **** election is over, because it really sucks in a battleground state like us! Anyway, feel free to continue to call, but be prepared to leave a message.

Take care!
Matt
